A Packaging Perspective on the Global Private Label Wave: My First PLMA Experience
2026-06-03
🌍
From May 19th to 20th, 2026 PLMA (Private Label Manufacturer Association), the premier global event for the private label industry, successfully concluded in Amsterdam. As the Head of Packaging Development, this marked my first time attending PLMA as an exhibitor. Driven by a passion for technology and design, I traveled to the RAI Amsterdam Exhibition Centre to witness this industry feast alongside over 3,200 companies from 75 countries.

As a seasoned practitioner in the packaging field, I deeply understand that packaging is no longer just a product's outer shell; it is the first touchpoint of communication between the brand and the consumer, and a direct reflection of a company's supply chain strength. The scale of this exhibition reached a new high, with a net exhibition area exceeding 47,000 square meters, attracting 19,000 professional visitors from over 120 countries. Immersed in such a vast and professional international trade environment, my most immediate impression was that the European market's aesthetic and functional requirements for packaging are undergoing a profound green revolution.

📈
Representing the Chinese delegation, our bustling booth hosted approximately 50 client visits in just two days. Through intensive consultations, we successfully showcased our full product line and captured key demands for customized solutions. Buyers were highly impressed by our massive automated capacity for dishwasher pods/tablets, as well as our child-resistant and eco-friendly packaging.
These interactions not only validated our market position but also fueled our future R&D. Furthermore, observing top global brands highlighted a clear industry shift: buyers now prioritize "environmental sustainability" and "ultimate user experience" over traditional cost and protection.

After closely observing the presentation logic of top global brands, I, as a packaging developer, noticed that international buyers' focus on packaging has comprehensively shifted from traditional cost and protection to "environmental sustainability" and "ultimate user experience." Terms like green packaging, lightweight design, and recyclable materials became high-frequency vocabulary at the event.
Many excellent cases, whether minimalist eco-friendly paper molding or innovative compostable flexible packaging, precisely met the strict demands of the European market for high-quality, cost-effective private label products. This further convinces me that the company's continuous investment in packaging innovation and quality upgrading is fully aligned with the future trends of the global supply chain.
For me personally, this PLMA debut was a comprehensive elevation of perspective. It allowed me to step out of the daily R&D loop and re-examine the underlying logic of packaging development from the height of the global retail market. Although the exhibition was brief, the signal it conveyed—"Craftsmanship Quality, Linking the Globe"—was truly resonant and thought-provoking.
